How it works

The contraceptive effect of Lynestrenol is achieved primarily by?increasing the viscosity of the cervical mucus, thus reducing sperm penetration. Other effects include the decreased receptivity of the endometrium to the oocyte and the disturbed transport through the tube.

Transient infertility on continuous treatment , irregular prolonged or heavy vaginal bleeding during first 2 or 3 cycles . Back pain , weight gain , fluid retention.

Drug Interactions

Rifamycin , anticoagulants , antidepressants , antidiabetics , anti-epileptics , antifungals , antivirals , aprepitant , barbiturates , bosentan , cyclosporin , diuretics , dopaminergics , lipid-regulating drugs , muscle relaxants .

Indication

It is used to treat : Polymenorrhea.Menorrhagia and metrorrhagia.Individual cases of primary or secondary amenorrhea and oligomenorrhea with insufficient levels of endogenous estrogen.EndometriosisBenign breast tumors.Individual cases of endometrial carcinoma.Suppression of ovulation, pain during ovulation and menstruation.To delay normal menstruation.

Precaution

Progesterone should be used with caution in conditions that may worsen with fluid retention e.g.. Epilepsy , hypertension , migraine , asthma , or cardiac dysfunction and in those susceptible to thromboembolism ( particularly in high dose ) , history of depression.
