Mefenamic Acid
Side Effects
GI intolerance , oedema , hypertension , skin rash, ( discontinue if occur ) . Renal impairement , allergic glomerulonephritis. Blood dyscrasias ( rare ). Raised liver enzymes.
Drug Interactions
Aspirin , warfarin or similar medicines including Eliquis, Xarelto or Pradaxa that are used to stop blood clots , some medicines used to treat high blood pressure , corticosteroids , lithium , cyclosporin or tacrolimus , selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, methotrexate.
Indication
Acute and chronic pain, particularly pain associated with rheumatic disease, muscle pain, pain in the region of the spinal column (intervertebral disc conditions, shoulder/neck syndrome etc.), postoperative pain and pain following injury, as well as headache, toothache and earache (in particular, pain following dental extraction). Primary dysmenorrhoea.
When not to Use
Do not take Mefenamic Acid if You have an allergy to: ? Mefenamic acid or any of the ingredients in the list ? aspirin ? any other NSAID medicine including COX-2 inhibitors.
