Sodium Picosulphate
Side Effects
Following side effects related to the gastrointestinal tract may rarely be seen with sodium picosulfate use: abdominal pain, abdominal discomfort or distension, borborygmus, nausea, vomiting and diarhoea .
Drug Interactions
Antibiotics , digoxin, diuretics , lithium , corticosteroids , oral contraceptives, antidiabetics, anticonvulsants, iron, bulking agent , TCADs, SSRIs, antipsychotics.
Indication
Sodium picosulfate treats constipation by enhancing bowel movement, it is indicated in: ? Acute and chronic constipation ? Relief of evacuation in painful conditions such as hemorrhoids ? Pre and post operatively ? Preparation of barium enema ? Preparation of colon for proctosigmoidoscopy .
When not to Use
It is contraindicated in patients with ileum, intestinal obstruction, acute abdominal conditions like appendicitis, acute inflammatory bowel disease and in severe dehydration. Known hypersensitivity to sodium picosulfate .
